Understanding the core is the basis for any good exercise program. A strong core will keep your body stable, balanced, and protect the spine. We will discuss the muscle groups that make up the core and how they work together to create a solid foundation. Learn the latest concepts in retraining core stability, including specific activation and exercise progressions for the pelvic floor, diaphragm, transversus abdominus and deep spinal stabilisers.

Pelvic stability plays the key role in rehabilitation and prevention of all lower limb injuries. Discover how the muscle sling systems that go across the pelvis provide us with stability to safely perform functional movements. We will take you through assessment techniques and exercise progressions for the anterior oblique, posterior oblique, lateral and deep longitudinal systems. With tips and ticks for activating individual muscles and down-training those prone to spasm.

A strong core and pelvis are the foundation for any good rehabilitation program. However, poorly performed flexion and extension exercises can be a major contributor to lower back pain. So, it is important that you are able to assess the quality of the movement and provide the correct cues. We will take you through many exercises and show some of the common mistakes and how to correct them.

What You Will Need

    • A computer, tablet or phone with access to the internet 
    • A pilates ball, resistance band, and large fitball
    • An exercise mat or appropriate space to do floor exercises

 

The Finer Details

    • Online Workshop Structure:  This online workshop can be started at any time, and completed at your own pace. The workshop consists of pre-recorded presentation and demonstration videos that can be watched at any time. There is also a manual that can be downloaded and referred to as you are watching the videos.
    • The Assessment Section: To receive your Certificate of Completion you must successfully complete the online quiz. This quiz consists of multiple choice and short answer questions and you have 3 attempts to complete the quiz successfully (pass mark 80%). If you are unable to pass the quiz in 3 attempts, we will work with you to clarify any areas you are unsure of and give you another 3 attempts. (Please note: video submissions are no longer required for this assessment)Once all assessments have been completed you will be able to download your Certificate of Completion.
    • Length of Workshop:  This workshop should take you approximately 5-6 hours to complete. This includes watching the videos, reading the manual, practicing the exercises, and completing the assessments.
